This is my formal intro, without interfering with anyone's "space". - My most sincere apologies - When I was sixteen, I was told I could not live at my parents home anymore. Why? Becuase I did not do religion. Because I was told that I did not have a choice in that matter. In the end, religion did not change anything about my tyrant mother. It only made her worse. She argued that it was the will of god. I din't give a crap, since that concept of god, isn't anything that I ever truly cared to learn anything about, anyway. Especially if IT wills nothing but insanity and destruction! I was separated fro that idea long ago. At MY will. My tyrant mother wonders these days why her sons are nowhere around, near her. Humm. Let's see... _________________ The most important voice to listen to is the one within one's head! Everything else may be influential, or not!

Hi MrInquisitive Seems you also have quite a story to tell ! And its also a good example of how the "wrong" perception [each position] of the others position leads to total enstrangement in the end, like living in two different worlds... Wished you could/would tell us all more about it, but then I would maybe appear as being too inquisitive, so... it has to come from you, when you are ready to do that, maybe later, when you've gotten more aqquainted with the people here, generally a very interesting and quite knowledgeable crowd, with many valuable inputs... from all walks of life, muslims, christians, hindus, jews, atheists/agnostics, hinduists, pan-theists, no voo-doo-ists so far, but also people who have made up their own religion... Anyway... Welcome to our place of discussions ! _________________ Upright is better than bent-over !

Hey there! You say this took place when you turned 16; can I ask your current age? What do you believe now? Or have you turned away from all religion (it certainly sounds like that to me)? Hello, Pazuzu, Once again, my apologies for my "slight" indiscretion. HomoErectus (H E) tells me that he would like to read some more but he feels that it might be a bit "too inquisitive". Well, one only needs to look at my "handle" - MrInquisitive -. I don't want to scare anyone Pazuzu, but I am close to mid century. As for religion, well, I never once remember thinking that it was anything important or valuable, and when I "played" with it it was only done because I felt it was necessary for my self edification, or worse, to accomplish a goal that couldn't be accomplished in any other way. Once I went past that plateau, religion went out the window - permanently -. It's a long story, but I am sure that it has many elements in common with many of us, here. I suppose the only variation will be the time and place, but other than that, it will be the same story with a slightly different "twist". Welcome Mr. I I am a Psychologist and your story has deeply touched me. I almost think that to you religion has blocked the image of the loving mother you should have had. You must resent religion! I am hoping later on for the right reasons? _________________ A little boy prayed for a bike. Dear MrI

This part sounds a bit like it had been islam you "did not do"...
and which made your mother worse than before !

Maybe tell us all a bit more about it, if you can...

Did she convert to some religion, and wanted you to go the same way, or... did it come gradually, sort of creeping up on her ?

I mean, technically, at the age of 16, where did you "move out" to, was it some relatives who took you in ?
Hopefully you didn't have to become a "street-child" or such.....
I mean, I happen to know an ex- "street child", an extremely decent person nowadays...
There's no guarantee in you upbringing, we all know the other extreme, the "rich-bitch", male or female, all genders, ages, ethnicities available in this "class"....

What nationality are you, if I may be so "inquisitive" for a moment... just curious !

Welcome to the forum, Your story saddens me, but even more depressing is your story is not unique. I can't imagine what your parents (mother) were thinking, religion or not, but know this, she apparently suffered herself from an early age, it's not an excuse for her actions, but her coping and rationalization skills were obviously taken from her. I am sorry for your situation. My parents kicked me out when I was 17, not over religion, but because I pretty much deserved it and was asking for it, didn't think so at the time, but as a parent I now see their wisdom. ( I guess in reality I was given a choice as to staying or leaving...I choose to leave) I am sure our situations are very different, I was by no means the victim, I seriously had it coming, but I just want you to know, it isn't the end all, you can pick yourself up, dust yourself off, grow up a bit and make a decent, honest life with people you care about. Protect yourself first but take pity on your mom, whether she deserves it or not, it is the right thing to do. Peace, Love and Health Katlike

Thank you, katlike, I have taken pity on her. I have done something worthwhile with my life. I never used excuses to stay down. Instead, I found reasons for getting up. Those were all strictly very conscious decisions. I forged a very good man out of myself.
