This is my motto: Life with God is sacred. If I'm an atheist, my atheism is sacred to me, and no one has the right to gainsay it or try to sell me on an alternate view. If I'm some version of a theist, well that's sacred to me, and no one has any say over it.
And frankly, everyone and his brother has some idea of "God", so it takes a LONG time to figure out "God". Or, to chuck the whole idea and just live 'whatever'. We all forget how hard this is. Good, that it's hard, because after all "God" is a Big Idea. But it's hard. Shouldn't be a decision we make easily or lightly.
At the same time, I have the right to do a 180-degree turn, reverse myself if I want. Again, that's a sacred right. For if God, then God made me and gave me this FREE BRAIN. If no God, then doggone it, I still have a FREE BRAIN.
Freeing the Brain to believe whatever it wants, so long as it doesn't harm someone else's freedom, is what life should be. I'm not a happier or better person if your faith is the same as mine. It's pleasant, perhaps, when we agree. But pleasant also, if we do not. You have your life. That's sacred.
My freedom depends on yours, and vice versa. I really wish we could all talk about God ideas without ego, much as we talk about food or computer stuff we love, no one feeling inferior or superior. But we can't. So the best we can do is realize how hard it is to even come to a belief, much less change it once we see that need. _________________ God needs no defending, and always begs the premise. We have spent thousand of years trying to figure out God. We evolved and our perception of him also evolved with us.
Worshiping trees, the sun, the stars, the human reproductive organs, statues to represent him/her/them....then when he did not show up for any occasion, even after the sacrifices of animals, virgins and even little babies, we come up with the an idea.
The whole thing is a test, a game and God is playing hide and seek! He sent us glimpses of him and news with the chosen ones, but we denied them, killed them and fought them, then honored them and worshiped them after we'd finished them!
We needed God to answer old questions, like what causes the rain, thunder and lightning. Can we fly? Can we watch events miles away as they happen? Can we?
And as science answers questions that we once thought they were knowledge of the Gods, the idea of searching for God's identity is slowly fading away!
There are still millions of unanswered questions, but I think it's a matter of time and science! _________________ A little boy prayed for a bike. Then he realized God doesn't work that way so he stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.

Yeah, and if there is a God He keeps BEGGING the question. Waiting until we ask the right questions, like "Who are YOU", and "can I be with YOU" instead of looking at someone/something else and wanting to use "God" as this genie to fix things the way we want them fixed. After all, if there is a God of Love, coercion would be wholly undesirable.
So again, it ought to be hard, not just is hard, to decipher whether and which, "God". _________________ God needs no defending, and always begs the premise. For belief of any kind, always needs self-auditing. |

The fish swims around the water asking where he can find water. If I told you that God was a tree outside your window, that certainly doesn't make it true, but remember, the reason you would disagree is because you've been told a concept of God and the tree doesn't match it. Therefore, your concept is the reason for your disagreement, whether that disagreement is correct or not. You tell a blind man that green is like a beautiful symphony, knowing that he can hear. Then, later on, he miraculously gains his sight and you see him sitting in a garden staring around at green plants in wonder and you say "now you know what green is" and he says "yes, I heard some of it this morning".
As Meister Eckhardt said, God is not found by any addition to the soul, but rather subtraction. True spirituality is not about learning at all, it's about unlearning all the stuff you've been taught.
