Surah 111:1 Pickthal: The power of Abu Lahab will perish, and he will perish. Surah 111:2 Pickthal: His wealth and gains will not exempt him. Surah 111.3 Pickthal: He will be plunged in flaming Fire, Surah 111.4 Pickthal: And his wife, the wood-carrier, Surah 111.5 Pickthal:Will have upon her neck a halter of palm-fibre. Who is Abu Lahab? Why are these verses in the Quran? What is the message behind the verses, if any? What's the story about and where can I find a cross-reference in the Quran explaining what is going on?

He is the Uncle of Muhammad. Muhammad believes he was entitled to an inheritance and claims Abu Lahab denied him his inheritance. In Five times in the Koran it mentions how you should not steal from (and give to) orphans. The number of good verses in the koran are about 1%. There is so few of them and yet Five are devoted to the orphans because muhammad had such a hard time growing up as an orphan. It is interesting that in One verse, Muhammad state he is closed to people then their Father and their Mother. And that allowed himself to include himself in the inheritance, which pretty much, allowed him to share the inheritance with the orphans. Edit: Added the last Paragraph. Looks like the details of this story are not available in the Quran and we must go elsewhere to find out what is going on.

Interesting that Lahab and Zyad are the only Two names mentioned in the koran beside its author.

The message of above can be easily understood from the Chapter of Curses and Woes in Matthew 23, specially this Woe sent by Jesus, when he sent woes upon woes. This is what went on:

If you can understand this, you should be able to understand that.

What about the following one?

4:163 Verily, We have inspired you (O Muhammad SAW) as We inspired Nuh (Noah) and the Prophets after him; We (also) inspired Ibrahim (Abraham), Isma'il (Ishmael), Ishaque (Isaac), Ya'qub (Jacob), and AlAsbat [the twelve sons of Ya'qub (Jacob)], 'Iesa (Jesus), Ayub (Job), Yunus (Jonah), Harun (Aaron), and Sulaiman (Solomon), and to Dawud (David) We gave the Zabur (Psalms).

What I find interesting is when I did a word search in the Quran for "Muhammad" I could only come up with one verse that did not have "Muhammad" is brackets (Muhammad) and it is this one:

3:144 Muhammad is no more than a messenger: many Were the messenger that passed away before him. If he died or were slain, will ye then Turn back on your heels? If any did turn back on his heels, not the least harm will he do to Allah; but Allah (on the other hand) will swiftly reward those who (serve Him) with gratitude.

I might have missed some, but why is Muhammad's name inserted in the text of most of the verses? Isn't Muhammad's name in the Arabic text?

are you sure that only those names are mentioned in the Quran beside its Autnor?

there is at least another 25 names mentioned, can you spot them?
