I've never been to oz. Is it like canada ? Are the chicks hot ? Is there good food ? Is it multi-cultural with all kinds of people or just anglo-saxons. Do you have your own tv/media/movies or is it all american stuff.

Population is 'small' considering the size of the place (about the size of the U.S) 20 million.
Multi cultural....yes, although still mostly anglo's. Food is great.
Like everywhere I guess, we do watch a lot of American (and British) stuff but make our own movies, tv series etc....tho most of our actors are in the US. lol. Mel Gibson, Nicole Kidman, Anthony LaPaglia, Heath Ledger, Cate Blanchett, Hugh Jackman, Russel Crowe (kiwi born Australian raised) to name a few.
Being a chick myself....difficult to comment on the 'hot chicks' bit.

None of these people are australian, they're american. Haven't you ever seen mel gibson in lethal weapon, nicole kidman in batman forever, anthony laPaglia in without a trace, heath ledger in brokeback mountain, cate blanchett in babel, hugh jackman is wolverine, and russel crowe in 3:10 to Yuma. They all have american accents.

As a 29 year old male, this was truly the only part of my question that I really cared about. Surely, you could at least make an observational judgment. If you are under the age of the 35, I'll take your opinion seriously. Do they look like the hot chicks over here?

Aboriginals only make up something like 2 or 3% of the population and they mostly live in settlements around the country. Funny enough, the person next to you on the bus with pale skin, blonde hair and blue eyes could be half aboriginal and you wouldn't know it. Eg: I have friends who have one parent full blooded aboriginal and one white and the kids will, 90% of the time be white.....not even slightly brown. Yet the Aboriginal parent will be very dark skinned. Weird huh.
Racism: On the whole, Australians aren't racist toward Aboriginals. Some may argue with that but you'll always get racist aholes everywhere you go I guess. Generally Aussies are quick to point out to others that Aboriginal people are the true Australians.
Unfortunately, I think Australia is starting to become a little more racist toward immigrants coming into the country.

Yeah...pretty multicultural on the food front. Chinese, French, Italian, more the 'continental' accent on food I guess. Mexican not soooo much anymore.

lol. Yeah...right.
Still can't get used to hearing them in american movies using different acccents...then they come home and their aussie again.
Americans are getting more used to the accent but they still don't go for aussies unless they do the voice/accent training thing.
'No do the accent....no get the job' is pretty much the call of the day.

But it's easier for you to speak english like me. I would really have to work to speak like you or someone from britain---forget scotland. I always found that to be weird. When I was a kid, I always thought that peter gabriel, phil collins, elton john, robert plant, et al were american because they sang with an american accent. It sounds like US english when they sing. Also, when non-native english speakers speak english like africans or asians, , it's always slow and broken like us.
Jamaican is a trip.

Also, do aussies hate america or britain ?

Continental accent on food as in a European influence.

When I hear an American or British person do an aussie accent, it sounds nothing like it to me. So when I hear aussies, like the above mentioned actors, speak with American accents....I think surely you guys(Canadians and Amercians)must think that too ....what a poor attempt of the accent?
Jamaican, 'yeah mon'. Cool accent.

Australia is probably very much like the U.S. Similarly set out, spread out Cities, surrounding suburbs etc (only the actual city centres not as big as the US cities) As with the U.S...drive, train bus it to work.
Canberra is the capitol of Oz. All the major capital cities, except for Canberra, lie on the coastline of Australia.
I live in a city called The Gold Coast which is kinda like (so I'm told) the newer areas of Miami with all it's high rises, canals and man-made lakes...not to mention the tourists (overseas tourists as well as ppl from other parts of Oz). They are everywhere around here.
Parties...yes, always tons of parties, good music scene...seeing live bands etc. City where I live probably focuses more on the nightclub scene...mainly as it's a busy tourist area. Not as many live bands here anymore...unfortunately.
| Quote: | | Also, do aussies hate america or britain ? |
No. Most Aussie like and get one with Americans and many Aussies are of English ancestry. We've always had close relation with both countries.
We do have a go at the English but all in fun, as they do with us. We bag them on coming here to get away from their cold weather and for loosing to us in the cricket. They in turn call us convicts and refer to Oz as 'The Colonies'. lol. But it's all in good fun.
That said, there are that small number of anti americans. They are generally the ignorant one's who have no idea of what's really going on anyway.

Absolutely not at all. That's what I was talking about. Guy Pearce is australian. I saw memento and thought the guy was from here. Then I saw him on Leno and he had an accent. Same thing with Natalie Imbruglia. This TV season, there's a bunch of british people starring in shows. The new bionic woman is british. If you didn't tell me she was from england, I couldn't tell the difference. It must be that it is easy to speak english like us, anyone seems to be able to do it.

How do you guys set up your work days/weeks (40 hours). What time does it start ? Do you guys do siestas/naps like italy ?
Are aussies really religious ?

Oh right, that retarded baseball game that the commonwealth plays. My parents are originally from south india and that game is like a religion in that country.

I like that dark-haired, beige skinned look also. Are they pasty-faced chicks like british women ?
BTW, it is not in the eye of the beholder, there is definitely a hot and a not. I think a website proved that. Plus, I am ugly--so I know.
