Surah 111:1 ????

Surah 111:1 Pickthal:  The power of Abu Lahab will perish, and he will perish.

Surah 111:2  Pickthal: His wealth and gains will not exempt him.

Surah 111.3 Pickthal: He will be plunged in flaming Fire,

Surah 111.4 Pickthal: And his wife, the wood-carrier,

Surah 111.5 Pickthal:Will have upon her neck a halter of palm-fibre.

Who is Abu Lahab?

Why are these verses in the Quran?

What is the message behind the verses, if any?

What's the story about and where can I find a cross-reference in the Quran explaining what is going on?
Baal

He is the Uncle of Muhammad. Muhammad believes he was entitled to an inheritance and claims Abu Lahab denied him his inheritance. In Five times in the Koran it mentions how you should not steal  from (and give to) orphans.

The number of good verses in the koran are about 1%. There is so few of them and yet Five are devoted to the orphans because muhammad had such a hard time growing up as an orphan.

It is interesting that in One verse, Muhammad state he is closed to people then their Father and their Mother. And that allowed himself to include himself in the inheritance, which pretty much, allowed him to *share* the inheritance with the orphans.

Edit: Added the last Paragraph.

Thank you, Baal.

I found an article on the Internet about Abu Lahab.

http://www.youngmuslims.ca/online...ry/tafsir/syed_qutb/Surah_111.htm

The conclusion is:

Thus, the humiliating picture of Abu Lahab and his wife has been recorded to last forever in this eternal book, the Qur'an, to show Allah's anger with them for their animosity to His Messenger and the ideas he was advocating. All those who choose to take a similar attitude towards Islam, therefore, shall meet with the same disgrace calamity and frustration, both in this life and in the Hereafter, as fitting punishment and reward!

Looks like the details of this story are not available in the Quran and we must go elsewhere to find out what is going on.
Baal

Interesting that Lahab and Zyad are the only Two names mentioned in the koran beside its author.

The message of above can be easily understood from the Chapter of Curses and Woes in Matthew 23, specially this Woe sent by Jesus, when he sent woes upon woes. This is what went on:

Quote:
33"You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?

If you can understand this, you should be able to understand that.

What about the following one?

4:163 Verily, We have inspired you (O Muhammad SAW) as We inspired Nuh (Noah) and the Prophets after him; We (also) inspired Ibrahim (Abraham), Isma'il (Ishmael), Ishaque (Isaac), Ya'qub (Jacob), and AlAsbat [the twelve sons of Ya'qub (Jacob)], 'Iesa (Jesus), Ayub (Job), Yunus (Jonah), Harun (Aaron), and Sulaiman (Solomon), and to Dawud (David) We gave the Zabur (Psalms).

What I find interesting is when I did a word search in the Quran for "Muhammad" I could only come up with one verse that did not have "Muhammad" is brackets  (Muhammad) and it is this one:

3:144  Muhammad is no more than a messenger: many Were the messenger that passed away before him. If he died or were slain, will ye then Turn back on your heels? If any did turn back on his heels, not the least harm will he do to Allah; but Allah (on the other hand) will swiftly reward those who (serve Him) with gratitude.

I might have missed some, but why is Muhammad's name inserted in the text of most of the verses?  Isn't Muhammad's name in the Arabic text?

HA HA HA, I was waiting for this mobot to come up with this foolish answer. Now, let me rip him apart, logically though. Laughing

David, this MOBOT is claiming it a prophecy and a miracle (a sign). Laughing  Laughing  Laughing
When you read this sura, you will find that mohammad got mad on his uncle. There is no prophecy and no miracle, whatsoever, as claimed by these mobots.

Nowhere it says whether Abu Lahab will belive in Mumbo Zumbo of conman mohammad or not. It is just ranting and cursing of madman mohammad, who got furious when his own uncle did not accept mohammad's so called best religion and his claim of being SEAL OF PROPHET.

Abu Lahab and Mohammad knew each other very well and Abu knew that MOhammad is faking as a prophet. Why would any sane person fall for such lies? So he didn't.

mohammad knew his uncle's nature and his power, so basically he couldn't harm him at all. Just to save his face, he cursed him at his will and put these 5 ayay in (not) holy quran.

Is it very difficult, rather divine, to tell about stubbornness of his uncle, while Mohammad knew himself that he is faking as a prophet and abu lahab knew the reality? I wonder, only mobots will see a prophecy and a miracle (a sign) in it. Laughing  Laughing

Here is a clincher for you mobot. I don't know you personally, still I can say that you will not leave islam for next 10 years. Now, fake to be an apostate to make my words wrong.
If you can't, then my prediction is better than your mohammad, because he neither said the time limit nor about belief of abu lahab. On the other hand, I am saying it loud and clear that you won't leave islam in next 10 years.

Muhammad's name is mentioned in Qur'aan four times only. You found one, there are three more.

For verses, which are addressed to him, the translators add his name in brackets to show the reader in English that it is Muhammad that Qur'aan is talking about.

For example, "Neither you know how to read nor how to write", the translators will put Muhammad's name in brackets to show that it was being addressed to Muhammad.

Thus the translation would read: "Neither you (Muhammad) know how to read nor how to write",

Hello,

There are only two and a half Muslims here. Ahmed and I make two and ibnishaq is 50-50. We try our best to answer and explain. We aslo try to be very tolerant of indecencies shown by FFI goons here.

When you write here, please do not think that you are writing at FFI cesspool. Just look at the foul  language of your posts. You are not being civil. In fact, I do not see you exchanging thoughts. I see you as someone who is suffering from verbal or oral diarrhoea and just throws up his/her hatred of Islam and the Muslims. You have been on the bin too long.  Laughing

Try to compose your serious questions well and you will always get an answer.

Now back to your question to Ahmed,"Do you see 7 layers of heavens/skies by your naked eyes as claimed by your so called all powerful, all knowing allah in quran?"

Let me answer your question with a question: "I have travelled the seven seas." What does that mean to you when I say this?

I don't see this story as a miracle.  The "prophecy" could have been inserted by Uthman when he finalized the Quran.  I see it as a threat to others if they dared not to believe Muhammad.
