PostPosted: Mon Nov 19, 2007 3:43 pm    Post subject: Christian Spirituality: what is it?  Reply with quote

Frankly, Christian spirituality is a process of spiritual maturation in the relationship with God via learning and living on Bible. It has zippo to do with religion, so you can pick whatever religion or denomination you feel best expresses your conscience before God -- or pick none at all. Because, this is a relationship with God who made you, not a religion. Whew!

Underneath all that, are five Elements which characterize the spiritual life, all of them things you think, none costing any money, no rituals required:

1. Believe Christ paid for your sins. That makes you a spiritual being. Just believe, no additives, no added verbs. This was explained in the "Saved" topic of this "Christianity" section. You only do this Step once. You can't lose your salvation.

2. Use 1 John 1:9 whenever you think you've sinned. Like the Temple in the OT, when it was defiled the Holy Spiirit didn't 'fill' it, so too your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and you have ZERO spirituality when you're in a state of sin. That's what 1Jn1:9 explains (from verse 6-10). Most Christians don't use the verse, so their ability to understand Bible, is zero: that's why Christians argue so much, think they can lose their salvation, etc. Bible is a supernatural Book. So you need God's Brains to get it. Think of it like being online with God: when you sin, you go offline. So use 1Jn1:9.

3. Ask God for your right Bible teacher. Not whom you choose. He knows better who you need to hear, to learn best, and no two of us are alike. He will answer that, and you'll know who's right for you. Then you stay under the teacher, learning Bible daily. You need a Bible teacher. You'll get spanked royally if you refuse to be under one. There's no one 'right' kind or type of teacher or denomination. This is a personal matchup, and God has someone for you. Of course, the pastor God selects will have his own insight about how to celebrate Communion, the "auld lang syne" of Christianity, Luke 22:19, 1Cor 11:24. He'll also have other things he feel is best. If he's your pastor, follow him with your brain on, so you'll get the most out of the learning. Parroting dishonors both God and pastor.

4. Live on what you learn. There are no set rituals or ways of doing things, but rather principles. You learn these a little bit at a time under #3. So here, you try "practicing righteousness" as John likes to put it in 1 John. This is a private thing between God and you. So for example, if you feel it's wrong NOT to be "x" denomination, then by all means, be "x": it's a private decision, between God and you, no one else's business. Again, this is private, your conscience before God, what you do: others will probably try to bully you. Ignore them.

5. Pray as much as possible. "Prayer" is first of all conversation with God. Do you think Jesus Christ ever looked away from God the Father? Of course not. So you keep looking at Father too, in your mind. Every thought you think, Father, Son, and Spirit hear. So think toward them. No one else will ever love you more, you don't need to play games ever. So just be you and think toward them as often as you remember. Being online with Him means you can talk with Him about anything, all the time, in your thoughts. Bible that comes into your mind (usually ideas, principles) which apply to your situations, are a kind of reply. No dreams, visions, etc. This is a real relationship with Real God, not a magic movie. So you relate to Him as a Real Person, and you'll get real and logical meanings of Bible in 'answer' to what you need. And of course you analyze Bible to learn those answers, too (always using 1Jn1:9 as needed, of course, or all you'll learn will be hot air).

Official prayer has a sequence you must follow, as it's a Royal Privilege you get as a priest: you can ask for ANYTHING in His Name, that's not an exaggeration. People just don't believe in God, so they won't use prayer. More often, they don't follow the a) - e) steps below (which David and every Bible hero followed, the Lord included) -- so no tickee, no washee. Want to end world hunger or stop the terrorists? PRAY! Faster than marching on your government, and doesn't waste their time, either. Because, you yourself are Heaven's Government Official, down here. Don't waste time in political activism, go straight to the top and ask DAD for what you want. Unbelievers don't have that privilege, we do.

So, just as there are rules for eating and driving, so too for Your Heavenly Official Prayer. The rules are basically legal affirmations of your privilege, why you get to do this. Remember, 99% of the world prays their eyes out and doesn't get what you get, until they do Step #1. So we owe it to them, to follow these rules (and to pray for them, of course). Here goes:
a) Use 1Jn1:9 or your prayer will not be heard (see Psalm 66:18, 32:5);
b) Pray to Father, or you're praying to the wrong person and your prayer won't be heard (it's like dialing the wrong cellphone number), see John 17;
c) Pray with your BRAIN ON, not some mindless preset script or chanting, see how the Lord warned not to pray like the Pharisees do, in the Gospels.
d) BELIEVE God will grant your prayer. Sure, you might not be sure if it's okay to have it -- that's why you're asking in the first place, you don't know if He'll say yes -- but believe that if it WERE okay, God would do it.
e) Pray in Jesus' Name -- you do this, because you're claiming HE's the reason why you can pray. So it doesn't matter how small you are, but how big He is, and in Him you have the Royal Prayer Privilege. So if you say "the Lord's Name" and you mean Jesus, that's fine. Or, whatever wording you find REAL and comfortable.

Most important thing: don't fake it. If you're mad at God, admit it. Cry with Him, laugh with Him, do whatever with Him within Bible, but don't EVER be phony like religious people are. God knew you a bizillion years ago, you're just learning about you 'now', He's not upset or uptight or surprised, disappointed, etc. Nothing to hide. This is true intimacy and freedom in relationship.

By the way, the Lord's Prayer is an outline, not something you mouth. John 17 is an outline. So is Ephesians 1:15-23, 3:15-19. Of course, almost all of the Psalms are models of prayer, look how frank David is! So just talk to God following those a) through e) in your own words. He's your own Father, you don't have to try to impress Him.

These things are explained in more detail at http://www.geocities.com/brainout1/GodSystem.htm. The "home" link on that page has a bizillion links explaining all the spiritual math (i.e., Bible verses) supporting what's written above. Again, it doesn't matter what is your denomination, these five Elements are always the same throughout history, so you'd be doing what David did, Moses did, the Lord Himself did when He was down here.

Try them daily, privately, see for yourself. This is something you can test. So you can prove it real.

See, it's a relationship, so it's private. No cookie-cutter rules, except since you're a Royal Priest, you need a)-e) to follow. You decide the rules based on your own conscience as you learn and live on Bible (Steps #3 and #4). Whatever's wrong, God will train you and fix.

Spiritual maturation takes a lifetime, but you are enjoying relationship with God 'now'. So you don't need to become anal about it, like uptight religious people do. Instead, settle back and relax. You're saved. Now, you're learning how to be in the post-salvation life with God. And it never ends. Look forward to meeting you in eternity.

Ok, that description sets the stage. Debate, discuss, whether these five or other stuff are spirituality?

I am afraid I will have to let our Christian friends chat to you about this, as for someone like me I have to first establish the existence of God and how convincing the story is.

Your post however is nice and for those who find comfort in belief, there is not harm in following such peaceful doctrine.

Understood. I just wanted to establish the topic, and had to come up with something as an introduction. Obviously that's how I see what Bible says (and of course have verses); many a Christian would dispute it. Still, it begins a discussion or debate. Smile
