Get well soon BMZ and don't walk that Orchard Rd late at night! You know that "Iblis" lives there! Wink

Thanks, A_B.

I am always told by the home ministry to go to some other 711 outlet instead of going to the one at Orchard Road.  Laughing

Looks like you know the place well.  Wink

Love Singapore! Lovely food, people and great shopping!

You've got yourself a nice and peaceful home there! It also seems that all nationalities and all faiths live in harmony there, they know how to live and let live.

Yes, Singapore is a beautiful and safe place and people along with the Government worked hard. All faiths live in harmony and believe me, nobody discusses religion in real life. People accept each other.

Malaysia is also similar to Singapore in that matter. I had suggested to ministers from various  Muslim countries to allow a 25% intake of Chinese, North Koreans and other poor people from the ex-Russian bloc and the Muslim countries would have shot up. And they laughed it off.  Evil or Very Mad

It would be much better saying that WOMAN created god in her own image !

This way I could [maybe] look at an alleged god maybe resembling  pamela anderson.... or so...

And, according to my signature, this would be the only exception where "bent over" may be better than upright !
Very Happy

Well, there are two ways of looking at this.  First, if there really is a PERSONAL God, then language of accommodation would be used to render a personal intimacy, which means this God would 'talk' and 'act' like the creation He makes, so that creation can understand Him.  The alternative would be to flat force the creation to know Him, which a Personal God would not want to do.  Love never coerces, and it makes no sense to create in the first place if Love is not the motive.  Any creation would necessarily be a pain to maintain, not unlike having a very sick child forever.  You love the child, but relationship would be limited.  Unless, one is an Omnipotent God and just likes doing things the hard way, going all the way low as well as being infinitely high.

In that scenario, what is claimed as a man-made god would really be a God-made man Who relates to man in his own terms.

Now, either way man will abuse "God".  Man uses everything to get power over others, to gain things over others, because man is fundamentally needy.  Love and need cannot coexist.  The child needs the parent, but the parent doesn't really need the child.  But the parent loves the child and takes care of him.  Of course, in real life often parents are just as needy (if not more) than the children they beget, and a lot of abuse takes place.  And of course, vice versa.

To the extent need exists, love cannot exist.  So we religify our relationships even with each other -- oh, Johnny, you didn't kiss me when you walked in the door! -- so of course any relationship (real or imagined) with God will be religified, too.  That doesn't mean God, if He exists, is that way.  It means we recrafted Him in our image.

I think there's a distinct 'fingerprint' of the difference between the man-made god, and the God-made man.  The man-made god is always about behavior, and what people say, do.  The relationship crafted by man about god always stresses rituals, emotion, incantations, etc.  When queried as to WHY these practices are enjoined -- for they are always silly, and it's important they be silly, for you aren't 'faithful' if you're not silly -- when queried why, you are hushed, dismissed, given soundbyte answers which would only satisfy a child.

A God-made man faith would be the very opposite.  Freedom would be paramount, maturing in a HIGHER form of relating would be paramount, since after all if God exists, He's higher and has no need and less interest in churlish behaviors.  We parents always yearn for our children to GROW.  We want to relate to them as fellow adults, not droolers who need diapers changed.  So how much more, a God-made man faith, would have GROWTH as its goal?  Growth in thinking, in freedom, in taking responsibility -- way higher than mere morality and its necessary behaviors.  Love is higher than morality, and apart from love, morality has no value.  The fun and fulfillment of morality is love.  Else it's a dry slavish existence which only a man-made god could love.

A_B,

I also think that Man created God in his (Man's) own image.  In the 70's, a sociologist named Peter Berger wrote a book called The Sacred Canopy where he came to the same conclusion based on Man's social needs to face unknown and unknowable mysteries of the universe.  He suggested that man created an image of God, then projected that image onto the cosmos as if it were real, then responded to that image as if it were an external reality.  Are you familiar with his work?

Anyway, I do not want to side track your thread.  I will monitor this thread and comment from time to time.
